We welcome lesbian, gay and straight couples. We have some twin bedded rooms that you can stay in together. If you and your partner/spouse are planning on coming here, just let us know on your registration form/when you book so that we can allocate these rooms for you. Normally at the Escuela de la Montaña, we give students (including couples) separate families to eat with in order to better share the work provided with the local women, and to help students practice their Spanish.
Families are welcomed at the Escuela de la Montaña. Nuevo San José and Fatima provide around 120 children to play with and who will happily teach the local intricacies of using slingshots (catapults), making kites out of tortilla chip bags, cooking tamales made of leaves, stones and dirt, and playing games in the coffee fields. In the Otto René Castillo Community Library we have many children’s books in Spanish and in our school library we have children’s books in English. We have four friendly dogs at the school and we also have a beautiful garden where children can play, with a small football field, carp fish, humming birds, coffee and banana trees! The school’s teachers have experience working with children as young as 5 years old, and with teenagers. For a minimal extra cost, childcare can be arranged for the youngsters who do not formally study. To make special arrangements for childcare, shorter hours of study or placing a child with a parent in one family to eat meals, please contact us in advance. We are happy to accommodate special needs for families whenever possible.
Depending on your group’s interests, we can arrange extra activities; group voluntary work and set up conferences and trips that meet the specific interests and educational requirements of the students. Let us know in advance to help us make arrangements.
